Acid jazz?, what is that?
Recently I've been hearing this band called Rollercoaster a lot, so I looked more information of them and found out the that they played Acid Jazz. The moment I read that my mind went "Acid Jazz?, What is that?" and then I went through a rabbit hole, I've been searching and listening this genere of music for the last week. It felt like I had found my music soulmate. Before I thought rock was my favorite thing but now that I know about Acid jazz, I'm obsessed with it.
There is little to no information of what is this genre, which makes me sad, so I decided at least talk about it on my blog. If you search "What Acid Jazz is?" you would find three or four articles saying pretty much the same information that you can find on the wiki page (which you can read the wiki page in about 10 min from the short it is):
Is a music genre that combines elements of funk, soul, and hip hop, as well as jazz and disco, originated in clubs in London during the 80s
It's basically a mix of all the generes I love so it's expected that I like it so much. I love jazz, but Acid jazz has a certain groove to it that I really love more. It's fun but it's not overwhelmingly energetic or tiring. I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like it has something special. I'm just happy to find out about this music.
Since I talked about Rollercoaster at the begging, I'll recommend their second album "In Everyday Matters", I've replayed it so many times and I can't get tired of it. It's so calm but groovy, the vocalist's voice is relaxing to listen to. I would close my eyes and enjoy.
Apart from Rollercoaster, later I found about Jamiroquai, they are pretty famous so it was question of time, honestly I don't know how I didn't know about them. I knew the song Virtual insanity1, but I didn't hear any more from them and when I found the album "Dynamite" in my YouTube recommendation I was mesmerized, I totally love this album and all the music I've been listening from them this past days.
To end this post I'll list a few songs I've enjoyed! in general I've been hearing music from all these bands but I'm listing my favorites.
For what I've seeing, because Acid Jazz is a fusion with a lot of other genres sometimes is hard to tell if something is acid Jazz or not (well, I think this applies for many other genres as well). You could say these songs are widely just a jazz-funk fusion, but for what I read and saw in comments, these bands are know for playing Acid jazz so I think they are? for me was always hard say what genre is a song anyways.
▶ Time won't wait - Jamiroquai
▶ The Song that I send you - Rollercoaster
▶ Sometimes - The Brand New Heavies
▶ Yo no Sé - Los amigos invisibles
▶ Lift off - Groove Collective
▶ Beneath The Surface - Incognito

I love the original, but there is a cover I also like from a music reality show called superband, this cover really got stuck in my head. I'll have to make a post about this reality after watching it again because it has a lot of great performances.↩
