Album review: 5x - ONEUS

It's been so long since I listen to ONEUS, it wasn't a group I followed much but since they were in the same company as ONEWE (a band I do listen to) I would check their music from time to time.

After watching the very popular movie these days: "K-pop Demon Hunters"1 I was reminded of this group watching the performance of "Your Idol", specifically to a song called LUNA 2. Yesterday I was watching those videos when I discovered they release a new EP so today I got curious and listened to it. This EP surprised me in a good way, I wasn't expecting that sound and I like it!

Since it's a short EP I'll just talk a little bit about every song. I don't think this is a masterpiece but it's definitely a fun album to listen to, it has nice instrumentals (love the synths) and it's a pop sound that lifts the mood. It's a very solid EP, I genuinely like all the songs.

  1. X. The bass sounds so satisfying, makes the song very groovy, I love that it goes through the whole song. Fun track, not my favorite, but indeed it's a catchy song. It's a nice way to start.

  2. LOVE ME or LOSER. The synths used here sound very unique, this type of rushed beat? I've heard it before in other K-pop songs but this one feels very refreshing. I don't know about production, but this feels different. The last 30 seconds go crazy! this is my favorite one.

  3. RELOAD. I don't have much to say beside it's a chill easy to listen song. Because it's in the middle, it feels for me like a transition for the next song and it works well.

  4. BAD. I adore the retro vibe this one has, the chorus it's really catchy, it's stuck in my head. Listening to it again, sounds like a OST for a K-drama, I think it could easily be one.

  5. TIME MACHINE (Korean Ver.). We continue and end with the retro sound, a sweet and refreshing song, It feels very summery! I found that this song it's originally in Japanese, that version sounds even more like city pop.

Listening to the full album made me think that all these songs really go well together and the order of the songs are, in my opinion, perfect. It's been a while since I like all the songs in a K-pop album.

I decided to write about this new release since I think this group it's not very known and I believe they have really good songs but not so much promotion. I hope more people recognize their work. Now I'm listening more of them.
