Talking about the world

Album Review: DETOX - ONE OK ROCK

I have a soft spot for this band since I've been listening to them for a long time so of course my review would be biased but I think they are an amazing band and their popularity in Japan and now international it's a proof of that.

This album came out two days ago and I have a lot to say about it. They are in my top three favorite bands and I was very excited for this album to come out, they did not disappoint me!

The first time I listen to this album I was very excited that I couldn't pay attention to details, I was just headbanging and vibing to all the songs. The second time was when I got in my feelings and I got a little emotional with the meaning of the songs. The third and for time I fully absorbed the songs in my brain and I'd sing out loud and dance to the songs.

This album reminds me of their old albums but mix with Eye of the storm production. It has a sound of heavy rock but they mix in electronic elements and I love that!. The production and the mix sounds so clean, I specially liked the sound of the drums.

I like how they always try new sounds, with the name of the album being DETOX, besides the meaning of the songs, I have the theory that it could refer to a detox in their sound, in the way that they are putting all they know out there: heavy rock, ballads and pop, so in the future they could grow even more and release something completely different?. I don't know, maybe I looked too much into it, but I'm curious in what would be their next sound and their next album.

About the lyrics, I love how theirs are not overly complex, but at the same they make you reflect a little, they are direct in their message. They continued with theme we listened in renegades: rebellion and stand up, it's perfectly portrait in the first songs of the album. The music and the lyrics complements well too each other, you don't need complicated words to transmit emotions that's what I think every time I listen to their songs. Music (their instruments and Taka's voice) talks for itself.

I adore how the album starts with NASTY, very strong and great song, then almost at the end they slow down with Tiny pieces and This can't be us (this being one of my favorite ballads from them now). They pick up the pace again with +matter, it works really well.

I was intrigued by the collaboration track C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y since I don't know the other musicians but they fit really well together. I wasn't feeling it in the start of the song, but the build up to the final part made me change my opinion, the screams and the rap were so fun!

My favorite song from this album right now it's Party's over. I'm in love with the guitar intro and Taka's voice coming together, then the verse starts with a very powerful sound and it's so good!. The after chorus with the scream is the cherry on top. Also, the guitar solo and the ocasional guitar riff in the background adds an extra essence that end ups wrapping all together. It's a indiscutible headbanger!

In conclusion, this album it's wonderful, it's a masterpiece and I'm crazy about it right now. Everyone did a great work, to the production until all the members: great guitar parts, great drums, great bass and of course great voice. I enjoy it so much every time I listen to it.

I'm just a fan of this band.
