Following the instructions
This could be sound dumb, but I've never follow the instructions in the package of food like pasta or rice. I always felt kind of untrustworthy towards the package's company, I don't know why I had the thought that they would just put generic instructions that could work but not perfectly. So I always made up my own measurements following my instinct. Sometimes it was right but many others wasn't.
Since last week I decided to just follow the packages instructions and surprisingly (maybe just for me) the food turned out almost perfect. I've followed the instructions for the rice twice and it really works well! also the pasta from the other day was cooked perfectly. Who would know that following instructions can help?!
It's more weird because I do follow instructions for other things: I always follow tutorials and read manuals of new things I get, but while cooking I always thought that I didn't need it, that I could go just by the feeling of it. Maybe it was my ego speaking.
In reality I'm not a professional and I cook for a hobby, it's been one year since I've been cooking almost every day but I'm still have a lot to learn. I think I have to develop more that "instinct" I thought I had for cooking and following instructions for basic food cooking like rice, beans or pasta is the right way to go. After I do that many times, maybe my body would learn and I'll be able to cook with confidence without the need of instructions.
So, I recommend following the instructions that are already given to you, even if you think you know how to do it or the task it's very simple as cooking pasta. If you haven't done that task before, It definitely helps and often it works better that trying to guess what to do or searching on the internet (could be confusing because there are a lot of different information about how to do almost anything).
