Talking about the world

Giving my own definition to words

Lately I've been doing this activity of trying to make up definitions of words by myself, not searching the internet or a dictionary, just with the knowledge I have of things. Everything started because I found the question "What is time?" interesting to answer and it was, I made a post about it after all (¿Qué es el tiempo? in Spanish), after that I happened to wonder about words, what is the meaning I'd give them or what they represent, ¿does it change with the language? sometimes yes. I feel like it's a good exercise for the brain, just stare at nothing and wonder about things.

I found that every word can be described in many points of view: grammatical, emotional, logical, abstract, etc. That's obvious because often words can have different meanings, but there is one more point of view: every person point of view. Trying to come up with many definitions as I could made me realize that you could give it all the meanings you want, every one from your own perspective, as detailed as you want. If you try to define the world "Door" for example, what would you say it is?, the function it provides?, the way it looks?, how it works?, maybe a combination of all of these questions?, a simple word can be complex to describe and every person would have different questions they want to answer.

And why would I do this if is something hard? what is the purpose?, well, there is none. I do this because is meaningless, because I'm curious and because it makes me feel like I'm detoxing my brain away from productivity. I think it's a hard game, although a fun one for me. In a way, I'm making my brain work, but not exactly to gain anything in return, I'm not aiming to discover something new and publish it. Sometimes I end up with interesting conclusions but that's a plus.

I don't do this all the time of course, but when I'm bored I'll probably think about this for a little.

Thanks for reading (●'◡'●)
