Giving the radio a chance
My main source of music (like everyone else) it's YouTube or Spotify, this streaming services made us forget that there are other ways to listen to music and for my generation, it feels like it's the only way we have to listen to music. I talked about it in another post, I started to listen music by myself on YouTube and then move into Spotify, so I'm attached to this applications but I'm slowly getting tired of them.
I'm not here to hate on Streaming services, because I like them and after all I can listen to music for free, more like saying that there are other options as well. So I'm trying listening to the radio now.
I actually have a good relationship with the radio. My dad would always put music on the radio while he drives, so on my school days my way was full with music from local radio stations. It was fun trying to find a station with music that both liked, we would say "Oh I found this station where they play 80s music!", get excited for our favorite station playing music instead of ads or because they played a song that we love. Besides that I've never listened to the radio alone.
Yesterday, tired of listen to the same music I wanted to discover new one, something out of my usual algorithm, that's when I remembered radio exists. Radio stations here don't really have the best music to be honest, they also keep changing so the ones I used to listened to are gone or have changed the music they played. That's part of the reason I stop listening to the radio, but then I realized that I could listen to other radios from different places. I have internet after all.
And yes! I found a lot of websites where you can listening to a lot of radio stations from different countries and for different musical generes. I've been digging on these website trying to find stations that I like and build my on catalog of favorites. So far I found a very cool radio from japan called "JPopsuki", I really like the music they play. I'm still looking for a English or Spanish radio because I want to find cool programs where, besides playing music, they talk about it too.
I've tried Accuradio and TuneIn to listen to radio. What I like of Accuradio is that there are a lot of variety of generes, you literally can find everything there and also shows what song it is playing, so in my opinion it's perfect for finding new music. In the other hand, I use TuneIn to listen radio from different places, in fact, I discovered JPopsuki here. There are a lot of radios to choose and I'm excited to explore all of them, the only bad thing is that I don't know the song names most of the time.
The more I think about it, the more I think that people working on radio must have fun, playing and talking about music? that's a dream job, at least for me.
