Talking about the world

Jangle pop and some song I've been enjoying

A couple of weeks ago I started to listen to The Sundays again, I don't know why, they just came up in my mind and had the urge to listen to some of their songs. That turned into me listen to all of their discography and searching them up, that's how I discovered what was Jangle pop, in the list of genres that caught my attention since it was the one thing I've never heard about. In this little adventure on exploring this genre I reconnected with The Cranberries, I used to listen "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" a lot a couple of years ago and I forgot how much I like this band.

I really liked the sound of Jangle pop, I find it very pretty, so I explored more of this kind of calm, dreamy music. Many of the bands that I found made Jangle pop but they expanded to other generes as well: alternative/indie rock, dream pop and folk. I went from band to band and on the way I found four more that stunned me: The Meeting Places, The Innocence Mission, Fantastic Something and Belle and Sebastian.

The Meeting Places vocalist reminds me of Elliot Smith, his quiet tone is what makes it familiar for me. Their music makes me feel like I'm walking without direction but in a good way, just wandering and enjoying the view.

The innocence Mission have more of a folk sound, combined with jangle pop. They have a lot of music and of course I haven't listen to all of it, but so far I've listening to the albums: Glow, befriended and small planes. I loved all these three! They have a similar sound to The Sundays in some songs, I think that's what attracted me first, but listening more really made me fall in love with this band.

I found Fantastic Something thanks to a recommendation in a comment on a YouTube video about Jangle pop, I'm so glad that I read that because this band has great music, I'd have missed it completely! They have only one full album called "Fantastic something" and I like every song there, The music is dreamy, pretty with calm voices, is from the 80s but it doesn't feel very 80s. They are from Greece, I believe this is the first band I've listened from there.

Belle and Sebastian is my latest discovery. What I like from them is that they use different kind of instruments (violin, xylophone, bagpipes) that make the songs sound whimsical and sometimes even cute? I've only listened to their album "The Boy With the Arab Strap" so far, but it was so so good, it left me with a smile. There is a song in that album called "A Space boy dream" and is a little jazzy, reminded me of Jamiroquai Space Cowboy and made me happy, I don't know if it's a reference.

Now I'll list some songs I've enjoyed from these and others bands:
