Talking about the world

Re: Having nice things

Reading this post from Jakobus, it made me think about having nice things. Personally it's hard for me to get new stuff just because I want to, it would be nice to have good clothes and the newest tech but I wouldn't buy it even if I had the money.

I also had a broken phone, it was a barely working, but I kept refusing to change it because in the end it was still working, even though the camera was destroyed and only half of the screen was visible. I know, I was being stubborn.

I think I can only spend money in things I really want, well...sometimes. Sometimes I have this sensation that I don't really need those things. For example, when I started learning violin, I had a really cheap one, as I grew up I kept using it but at some point I felt that it was holding me back. I thought I didn't really deserved a new one and ignore the idea of getting a better violin. It took me years until I convince myself that it was fine and finally bought it.

You would say, "well, that's great! you are good at saving money", but for me it's not about the money, I think I keep putting myself down. It's a problem when I don't buy things I need.

Jakobus says:

I think it’s perfectly fine to own some nice stuff. It feels good to have a quality pair of boots, for instance. But I just need to be comfortable with not always having everything be nice

My difference is that I need to be comfortable with having something nice. Because it's perfectly fine to own (and wish to have) some nice stuff.
