"The Rehearsal" it's a weird show (in a good way)
Yesterday I discovered the show -The Rehearsal- in HBO Max, I found it in the documentary section, I wouldn't put it there, but honestly I don't know in which section would I put it because it's weird...very weird...but good.
The premise it's simple: people rehearsing things that are afraid to do but want/need to do, I started watching the show with zero expectations but it caught me completely in the first episode. I didn't knew who the host was, then after that first episode I did a little research because I was intrigued, found out that Nathan Fielder it's actually a comic and that help me to understand the concept of the show (it clicked more in my head).
I don't know how much of this show it's actually real and I think that's the beauty of it. Sometimes it feels like a mockumentary, too absurd to be true, those moments of ridiculousness were very funny to me.
I think the concept of the show it's a dream come true for people with anxiety, rehearsing your life? sounds like a good plan!, but then you see it in practice and looks crazy. It makes you realize that anxiety and obsessively worry about things it's absurd, so absurd that it's hilarious.
I wrote this in my notes, for me describes this show very well:
Even if this show it's fake, it sparkles some moments of reality and that makes the show feel genuine.
If you are searching for something fun, awkward, that makes you think and reflect about life, give it a try!
Thanks for reading :)
