Things that humans do
Often when I see someone doing something unique or impressive I'd think "Wow, we evolved into this, how did humans end up here?", In retrospective, it's just crazy how we make some things possible. At some point it feels weird thinking about it, like when you repeat a word over and over until starts loosing meaning, thinking about the world we live in now sometimes feels like that for me.
I came to realize that humans are weird, we do many illogical and sometimes crazy things. Even writing about this is kind of weird.
Suddenly had the urge to make a list of things that are kind of weird if you think about it.
- Skating. You are telling me that we put blades in our shoes willingly and stepped into ice? and not only that, we end up creating a whole sport were people fly through the air! And it's beautiful, it really is.
- Rollercoasters. High speed train with 360 spins, ups and downs, and is consider a game.
- Fruit sculpture. Someone one day saw a watermelon and said "well, that's a good art material", or how is that it started?
- Paper. Somehow we converted a tree in many thin, white layers where we can write, draw, make origami (oh that's another weird thing).
- Origami. The things you can do with just one piece of paper is insane, I can not comprehend that.
- The internet. This is easy to know why I think it goes in this list. There is an immense knowledge there and at the same time we can connect with anyone at any time. Is crazy that such thing exist.
- Sand castles. We build them even when we know they're not going to last and would be destroyed.
- Having pets. I think I get this one more, people want to have some company or simply helping an animal that is in need, a more weird thing though is talking them in a high pitch voice, that "pet talk" is almost like a baby talk and is equally weird in babies now that I think about it. Also, the necessity of petting, as soon as they find a cute animal, somehow people wants to pet them.
- Extreme sports. This is similar to skating, all risky sports are impressive skills but still weird, like diving, acrobatics, skateboarding, etc.
- Exploring extreme places (space, deep sea, caves). That's for curiosity I guess, but is really impressive where our curiosity led us to. After all, we built ships that go to space or submarines to explore the sea, and in both we hope not to run out of oxygen.
