When I worked in a library
When I was in high school I volunteered in a library, it was obligatory for credits, but at the same time I wanted to try to work there since I like books. This experience was new and scary to me, at the time I was a very shy and anxious person, working in a library required from me a lot of social habilites, it was a big challenge. Besides all this, I learned a lot working there and I enjoyed it too.
The first day I remember that I started at the front desk answering calls, phone calls scared me a lot, I was super nervous the first week, but at the days passed I started to get used to it. This work in fact made me get over my fear of phone calls, I still hate to make or answer a call, but at least I'm not afraid of them anymore. I learned to deal with clients and phone calls, that made me feel very proud of myself.
To be honest, there weren't a lot of people visiting the library, specially when I worked on holidays. I got a little bit sad that there wasn't many people interested in books.
I did tasks like ordering the books, inventory work and decorations for Christmas. I loved those routine tasks. I would put my headphones on, listening to music while working, together with the silence in the library made me feel at peace. Plus, in my break time I could read books.
A couple of weeks before finishing my volunteer, the librarian there told me that they repaired damage books too and asked me If I wanted to learn, I obviously agreed. It wasn't very difficult, I repaired about three books before I left.
All the people there where very kind, those memories brightened my high school years. Remembering all this memories makes me want to work on a library again, unfortunately this library is not longer open.
Like two years ago I was passing by and saw the building was in construction, I thought they were remodeling the place but when I searched for it I saw the news: they were closing it. I was sad about it since I really liked the place, but at least I got the opportunity to experience working there and at the same time, learned a lot from it.
I'll treasure these memories.
Thanks for reading :)
